The Benefits of Pilates
LEARN HOW TO MOVE EFFICIENTLY…
Pilates exercises train several muscle groups at once in smooth, continuous movements. By developing proper technique, you can actually re-train your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion – invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health.
Pilates is Low Impact
It’s gentle…
Many of the exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions, and most are low impact and partially weight bearing. Pilates is so safe, it is used in physical therapy facilities to rehabilitate injuries.
Pilates is For Everyone
BUT IT’S ALSO CHALLENGING…
Pilates is also an extremely flexible exercise system. Modifications to the exercises allow for a range of difficulty ranging from beginning to advanced. Get the workout that best suits you now, and increase the intensity as your body conditioning improves.
Pilates History
Around 1914, Joseph Pilates was a performer and a boxer living in England and, at the outbreak of WWI, was placed under forced internment in Lancaster, England. There he taught fellow camp members the concepts and exercises developed over 20 years. It was at this time that he began devising the system of original exercises known today as “matwork”, or exercises done on the floor.
A few years later, he was transferred to another camp, where he began devising equipment to rehabilitate his “patients,” taking springs from the beds to create spring resistance.
Because of the remarkable nature of the equipment to both challenge and support the body as it learns to move more efficiently.
